Hurricane Fay

I've got a lot of first time things going on in my life right now and I guess I can add my first hurricane to that. I've been watching the news and reading about it. As a California guy you say earthquake and I'm ok. I figure it's going to be 20-30 seconds and it's over. Hurricane, that's a different story. I've been asking the guys what's going to happen and then Drayton Florence started asking me if I'm scared. I wouldn't say scared, maybe anxious. I'm paying attention because it's a totally new experience. I guess it's not that big a deal, no one around the hotel seems too concerned about it. The guys and coaches just say it's going to be a lot of rain and thunder and lightning, they seem to be downplaying it. I know we're planning to practice. We'll either be outside, doubtful, or in a gym doing a walk through practice. They say it's hurricane season so I guess you get through this one and get ready for the next one.

  I feel you on that one. I recently moved out to Florida from So. Cal. as well. I know what you mean about being anxious over this Faye thing. I have even live din places with tornadoes, and like you said about the quakes it comes and it goes just about as quick. This tropical storm/hurricane thing though has me wondering what it will be like. Also the fact they cannot seem to decide what path this thing is going to follow also makes me wonder.
  I am down in the Orlando area, and we still do not have a solid answer on where this storm is going and for how long. Good luck up there this season.

  I am with you on that! I don't think I could handle hurricane season over there. I am definitely a Cali girl and give me an earthquake any day over a bad storm that lasts days. Thanks for keeping us all updated on your life out there in FL. Love reading how life after college is for you. I have been following you since you started at USC and I am glad you have made it this far (not to mention with such a great attitude towards life). Good luck in the NFL!

  The difference between an earthquake and a hurricane is that you know when a hurricane is coming for you. I think an earthquake would freak me out but then again I have lived in Jacksonville all my life. My senior year of high school was when we had all those hurricanes come through Florida and we threw hurricane parties. They aren't that bad. They are just like really prolonged intense thunderstorms.
  
  Hurricanes don't usually hit directly in Jacksonville if they are coming from the Atlantic. We've had so many times where the people of the city freak out and then the hurricanes curve and go toward the Carolinas. It probably has to do with with ocean. I guess you guys are already down south for the Tampa game, though. :)

  Don't worry about it man, if it was truly bad, you would be evacuated. I hope you haven't gotten too bad of rookie hazing. I know they tie players to the goal posts and throw you in the cold tub. Have you had anything done to you yet?

  I have been here for years and most of the storms are just a annoyance. The thing I tell people about them is that you know they are coming, compared to tornado alley ect: There can be the real bad ones that you have to evacuate from, but most make you just stay indoors for a couple days. If you prepare by having your supplies that you need, you make the bestof it by having a little gathering of friends. This one is not a good example, most would have been long gone.
