Steelers' Dan Moore Jr. says Pittsburgh 'Lacks mental toughness'

Doctors say that you shouldn't make decisions in the heat of the moment, as emotions tend to take the place of rational thought.

Well, in the NFL, players are often subjected to media just minutes after heartbreaking losses, or huge wins, yielding a variety of responses that are never short on entertainment.

Steelers starting left tackle Dan Moore Jr. may have just fallen victim to that emotion, with Coach Tomlin angrily responding to his postgame comments:

"We Gotta Be More Mentally Tough"

"But at the end of the day, we gotta be more mentally tough," Moore told reporters after the Cardinals' loss on Sunday. "We lack execution right now as an offense, and mental toughness in certain situations. Not converting on third downs is one of those examples. We just, we gotta help our defense out and keep drives alive."

If your unfamiliar with locker room talk, those might as well be fighting words, especially when given in that context.

No matter your opinion of Mike Tomlin, no one, and I mean no one thinks his team's are soft.

Not physically, not mentally, not at all.

So for one of his own players, rather his starting left tackle, who plays the second most important position on offense to come out and say that about the team, that's concerning.

And Moore probably regretted saying it as soon as the reporters left.
Not because he thought Coach T would go through the interviews on YouTube, but that he may have to answer for what Moore just said in front of the media.

Turns out that happened:

Coach Tomlin had to answer an earlier question surrounding Jaylen Warren's comments that the team didn't take the Cardinals seriously, to which Tomlin said that it was probably something to do with the phrasing of the question.

Well, that may have been true given the context of Warren's quote, but as you read earlier, Moore offered the toughness sentiment up on a silver platter for the media.

So the bottom line is that Moore simply shouldn't have said that and will likely have to answer for his comments if he hasn't already.

Hopefully Dan Moore, Jaylen Warren, Diontae Johnson and others willl learn to bite their tongue after postgame losses, but that is easier said then done.
